“Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.” – Unknown.

The House of Compassion Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation centre was nominated by self-professed, die-hard Hot91.9FM listener Tammy Kissoon.

Tammy, who recently began volunteering at the centre, identified both a need and a solution for the home and contacted Hot Cares for assistance.

An NPO established 17 years ago, the House of Compassion offers rehabilitation programmes for alcoholics and drug addicts, and like many NPO’s, is faced with the daily challenge of securing regular, sustainable funding.

The vision of being self-sustainable has always been a goal that the House of Compassion consistently works towards.

In line with that goal, one of the projects House of Compassion has undertaken is to develop a greenhouse on some vacant land they have, which would allow for growing vegetables for the centre as well as to sell to consumers together with plants and flowers.

The seeds and cuttings of the plants are ready and await a home to be harvested in.

The success of the Harvest Project will be beneficial in two ways: firstly as an income generator and to provide food for the residents, and secondly, it will serve as one of the rehabilitation programmes to incorporate essential learning elements for recovering addicts.

Hot Cares is happy to help with the required gardening tools and building supplies necessary to complete this Harvest Project for a total project value of R10 000.
