The traumatic story of the drowning of a 16-month-old little girl in Bordeau was sent to Hot Cares by a distraught resident asking for help.  We contacted Riaan van Straaten, the neighbor, to see if we could help in any way.

Riaan was first on the scene and tried to resuscitate the little girl before the paramedics arrived.  He told us that Blessing had been left in the care of two young boys and two pensioners whilst her mom went to work.  Somehow the little girl managed to get through the pool gate and drowned.  The two young boys, aged 11 and 17, desperately tried to help but have now been left absolutely traumatized.

Hot Cares would like to extend its sincere condolences to Thandeka and the family of Blessing and whilst we can not begin to imagine how difficult it must be to lose your child we would like to help where we can.  Hot Cares told Riaan that we will contribute R8 000 towards the funeral expenses.   Saddened by the trauma that the 11-year-old boy had to endure in trying to save Blessing, we contacted Brenda from Chameleon Play therapy for some advice.  Brenda has generously offered 6 play therapy sessions for the young boy to help him work through this trauma and ensure that he does not carry unnecessary guilt or suffering with him.
