Established in 1892 at a time when Turfffontein was an affluent gold mining community, the Turffontein Congregational Church, a Johannesburg heritage site, continues to service this very disadvantaged community on a daily basis.
True to the spirit of charitable giving, the church assists the community with alcohol and drug addiction, providing the homeless with food parcels; and helping some members of the congregation who aren’t always able to provide their own homes with food.
Recently and sadly the church has been affected by crime which has impacted their ability to service the needs of the community.
After Hot Cares received a request following their last break-in to assist with replacing some of the items that were stolen, we contacted the Minister, Jennifer Fernandis, to see where we could help.
With an alarm system and additional security measures in place, Hot Cares is honored to be able to provide the church with an urn, microwave, kettle, crockery and other items which are not only used for the members of the church but also for fundraising events, on which the church relies.
The other crucial need for the church repairs to their toilets. Again, as a result of crime and the high demand for copper, the copper pipes in the bathroom were stolen which also resulted in the perpetrators breaking basins and damaging the toilets. If you can assist with these repairs, please contact
