Chef Philippe Frydman contacted Hot Cares to tell us about his idea of putting the restaurant kitchens that are currently ‘closed for business’ to good use and that he had been provided a kitchen by Mathew Abrahams of Thava Indian Restaurant in Norwood.

Hanneke from NOSH Food Rescue NPC (NOSH) receives and redistributes prepared and perishable surplus food that is wholesome and nutritious to hundreds of soup kitchens and feeding schemes. Chef Philippe and Hanneke have teamed up to create Kitchens with Compassion and feed those less fortunate.

Together they are working tirelessly to prepare meals for those affected by the lockdown.

Hot Cares was asked to assist with donations of ingredients needed and other expenses so that they could ensure no food is wasted and that many people receive a nutritious meal. This team has already fed thousands of people all over Johannesburg and is looking at extending this project into other kitchens that have been offered.
On Friday we received a call from our friend Abram who does amazing work in Diepsloot telling us of the daily challenge many residents are facing during lockdown. For many, no work means no pay – which ultimately means no food. Today, the children of the creche and their parents will be received a delicious cooked lunch and Hot Cares will ensure that they also receive groceries to sustain themselves over the next few weeks.
