Empowering Dwayne’s path to mobility and a brighter future
This Hot Cares Christmas, we’re honored to support 15-year-old Dwayne Dekker, a courageous young man living with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita—a rare condition that causes severe joint deformities, limiting his mobility.
Dwayne’s journey has been anything but easy. Born with deformities in his feet, ankles, and hips, he has undergone multiple surgeries to improve his mobility. Despite these efforts, Dwayne has faced daily challenges, including difficulty moving and attending school, where he relies on a plastic scooter to navigate between classes. Yet, his resilience and determination shine through.
Scheduled for another critical surgery on December 11, 2024, Dwayne faces a crucial step in his journey toward better mobility. The procedure aims to lengthen his tendons, correct deformities, and improve his quality of life. However, the financial burden of travel, accommodation, and post-surgical care is overwhelming for his family. His mother, Leonie, the sole breadwinner, has done everything possible to support her son, but their limited resources make it difficult to meet all these needs.
Hot Cares is stepping in to ensure Dwayne receives the care and support he deserves. We are covering the costs of travel, accommodation, meals, and follow-up care for his recovery. To aid his healing process, we are also providing new braces, comfortable clothing, and rehabilitation services.
Beyond medical care, we’re bringing joy to Dwayne’s recovery by gifting him a TV, an Xbox with games, and Wi-Fi for 12 months to keep him entertained and connected. Additionally, we’re supporting the family with groceries for six months to ease their financial strain.
Valued at R130,000, this support reflects our commitment to making a meaningful difference in Dwayne’s life. Together, we are empowering Dwayne to step into 2025 with renewed hope, strength, and a brighter future.
