Giving the Gift of Sight: Supporting Amahle’s Journey
Amahle Miya is an inspiring intern in the St Peter’s Prep Foundation Internship Programme, a transformative initiative that enables young adults from underprivileged backgrounds to pursue careers in teaching. This program, which collaborates with the University of Johannesburg, offers interns practical classroom experience alongside a comprehensive academic curriculum, allowing them to graduate with a B.Ed degree and four years of hands-on experience.
As Amahle approaches his third year, he faces an unexpected obstacle that threatens his bright future: he requires a cornea transplant to save his eyesight. With a strong desire to teach, Amahle’s challenges are compounded by the recent loss of his mother in August 2023, who was his primary supporter. Despite this heartbreaking event, Amahle remains committed to his goals and is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of the children he teaches.
Known for his kindness and natural ability to connect with others, Amahle is a cherished role model both in the classroom and on the sports field. His passion for education and his understanding of the impact a good teacher can have on a child’s life fuel his ambition to become an educator. However, the cost of the necessary transplant is estimated at R60,000, a daunting sum for Amahle to cover on his own.
In response to this urgent need, Hot Cares is stepping in to help. We are proud to announce that we will cover the full cost of Amahle’s cornea transplant, ensuring he has the gift of sight to continue his journey toward becoming a teacher. By supporting Amahle, we are not only helping him realize his dreams but also investing in the future of education and the countless children whose lives he will undoubtedly touch.
