Helping Zelda fulfil her dream of caregiving

This Hot Cares Christmas, we are proud to support Zelda de Beer, a single mother of three boys whose life has been defined by extraordinary compassion, strength, and resilience.

Zelda’s youngest son, Justin, was diagnosed with leukemia at just two years old, requiring her full-time care and attention during his treatment. Despite her own challenges, Zelda found time to extend her support to others, including caring for Joan Nieuwenhuizen, who was recovering from life-threatening surgery. Zelda provided holistic care, from physical health support to emotional companionship, while still managing her son’s outpatient care.

Now that Justin is in remission, Zelda is ready to pursue her lifelong dream: becoming a qualified caregiver. She envisions creating a sanctuary for elderly and vulnerable individuals who lack the resources or family to care for them. However, financial constraints have made it difficult for her to take the next step toward this goal.

Hot Cares is stepping in to help Zelda achieve her dream. We are covering the full tuition and transport costs for her 6-month Home-Based Care Assistant course at Stepping Stone Hospice, valued at R54,000. This accredited program will provide Zelda with the professional skills and qualifications to build a stable, independent future while giving back to the community.

To further alleviate her burden, Hot Cares will also cover Zelda’s groceries for the next six months, allowing her to focus entirely on her studies and her mission to care for others.

Zelda’s story is a testament to the power of selflessness, resilience, and community. This Christmas, we are honored to empower Zelda on her journey, helping her turn her passion for caregiving into a meaningful and impactful career. Together, we are creating brighter futures, one act of kindness at a time.
