Honouring Patricia’s dedication to her daughter and community

This Hot Cares Christmas, we are proud to celebrate Patricia O’Neill, a 73-year-old widow and selfless pillar of her community in Regents Park Estate. Despite limited resources, Patricia has spent decades raising her four children and supporting her neighbors, sharing what little she has to help single mothers, children, and others in need.

At the heart of Patricia’s life is her daughter, Michelle, a 47-year-old woman with Cerebral Palsy who requires full-time care. Patricia’s unwavering love and devotion to Michelle is remarkable, but her age and physical limitations make caregiving increasingly difficult. Michelle’s outdated wheelchair is causing discomfort and sores, and their bathroom is not equipped to meet Michelle’s needs, forcing Patricia to rely on bucket baths—a labor-intensive process that takes a toll on her health.

Hot Cares was deeply moved by Patricia’s story and her enduring commitment to both her daughter and her community. This Christmas, we’re stepping in to make life a little easier for this incredible woman.

We are providing Michelle with a custom-fitted wheelchair designed for her comfort and mobility, ensuring she can sit and move with dignity. Additionally, we are equipping Patricia with a hydraulic lift to assist her in safely transferring Michelle during bathing and daily care.

This support, valued at R30,000, is a small way to honor Patricia’s years of selfless dedication and to provide her and Michelle with the tools they need to live more comfortably.

Patricia’s resilience and compassion are a testament to the power of love and community. Hot Cares is proud to offer her this helping hand, ensuring she and Michelle can enjoy a more comfortable and joyful festive season. Together, we’re spreading hope and care this Christmas.
