Supporting Cause for Paws this Christmas
At Hot Cares, we believe in spreading kindness to every corner of our community, including those who can’t speak for themselves—our beloved animals. This year, as part of our Hot Cares Christmas initiative, we are shining a light on the incredible work of Rene and her team at Cause for Paws, a grassroots animal welfare project in the Jackson informal settlement.
For years, Rene and her Paw Patrollers have worked tirelessly to ensure that the pets in their community are cared for, especially during the festive season when financial pressures often make it difficult for families to provide for their animals. With dedication and compassion, they walk the streets daily, feeding, nurturing, and looking out for the wellbeing of these loyal companions.
The story of Cause for Paws came to us through Loren Howell, a passionate supporter of animal welfare. Every December, Loren celebrates her birthday by hosting a gathering where she collects dog food instead of gifts. However, this year, financial constraints have made it impossible for her to continue this tradition, leaving her deeply worried about the animals in Jackson.
Hot Cares couldn’t let that happen. To support Rene and her team, we’re providing food and new water and food bowls to ensure the animals are well cared for this Christmas. We’re also equipping the Paw Patrollers with backpacks, sun hats, and umbrellas to keep them safe and comfortable during their rounds. To add some festive cheer, each team member will receive a holiday shopping voucher.
Finally, to honour Loren’s incredible dedication, we’re treating her and her husband to a special birthday dinner. At Hot Cares, we know this isn’t just about feeding animals—it’s about hope, compassion, and uplifting an entire community. Together, we can make a difference.
