Its aim is to provide a loving, caring environment in which the whole child can be nurtured and the developmental needs of the children met in an appropriate and culturally-sensitive manner by qualified and competent staff.
The home covers a range of needs and offers residential facilities that provide specialized care for children with special needs, ranging from those with chronic illnesses to those affected and infected by HIV/Aids, children who are vulnerable, orphaned, neglected, abused, abandoned, and those with behavioural problems.
As with many homes of this nature, St.Theresa’s Children’s Home constantly struggles for funding, just to provide the basics for these poor children, including the basics they need for school, which is obviously a vital element in their development.
So, here at Hot Cares we put our heads together and just started to have some conversations with those in our community, regarding how we could possibly help, and before you know it, we had a positive response from one of our regular anonymous donors.
They were blown away by the good work St.Theresa’s Children’s Home does and they immediately said they would like to donate R40 000 towards school uniforms and other educational needs!
An incredibly generous offer and one that will change the lives of these poor children, according to St.Theresa’s Children’s Home Director Debbie Bowes, who joined Joburg’s Hottest Breakfast Show on the line and had the good news broken to her.
