Silverstar and Hot Cares step up to support Dean’s water therapy journey

On October 9, 2024, Hot Cares and Silverstar joined forces to help young Dean Eglinton, a six-year-old with Cerebral Palsy, enhance his quality of life through water therapy. Dean, affectionately known as “Our Champ,” was born prematurely and faced numerous health challenges, including a brain bleed and infantile spasms that resulted in global brain damage. Despite these obstacles, Dean has been seizure-free for nearly four years and has found immense joy in water therapy.

Dean’s parents, Tanya and her husband, work tirelessly to provide him with the care he needs, including attending a specialized school where daily swimming therapy has become essential.

However, to fully benefit from water therapy, Dean requires a specialized inflatable floating device not available in South Africa. Unfortunately, the financial burden of raising a child with special needs, including medical aid, equipment, and therapies, has made purchasing this device out of reach.

Recognizing this, Hot Cares and Silverstar stepped in to make a difference. Silverstar has generously agreed to cover the cost of the floating device, valued at R5000, ensuring Dean can safely engage in water therapy. Additionally, they will assist with the family’s urgent out-of-pocket medical expenses, offering a further R9200. The total donation of R14,200 will help alleviate some of the financial strain on Dean’s family, allowing them to focus on his development and well-being.

This act of kindness is a testament to Silverstar’s commitment to supporting families and helping children like Dean access the resources they need to thrive.
