Caring for the carers: Hot Cares supports Midlands Hospice

At Hot Cares, we are continuously moved by the heartfelt work done by organizations dedicated to uplifting their communities. One such beacon of compassion is Midlands Hospice in Howick, which provides personalized palliative care to patients with life-threatening and terminal illnesses—many of whom have no support networks.

Operating from a modest house and a converted cottage, Midlands Hospice manages to serve up to 90 patients a month, with more than 70% of their care directed toward underserved communities. Their holistic approach to care—combining medical treatment with emotional and psychological support—extends not just to patients but also to families navigating complex journeys of grief, often from afar.

Their team, some of whom have served for over a decade, has a wish list of simple but vital items that would improve their ability to care for patients and continue critical fundraising efforts. These include medication, uniforms, jackets, and equipment for public events.

Hot Cares is honoured to help. We’re stepping in to provide uniforms for all 22 staff members—clinical, admin, and shop assistants—valued at R20,000. We’re also assisting with a branded marketing kit and gazebo (R8,000), as well as a sound system for events (R5,000). Additionally, we’re covering the cost of medical consumables for the next six months—an investment of R12,000.

In total, this R45,000 donation will make a meaningful difference in the lives of Midlands Hospice patients and staff. We are proud to support an organization that brings peace, dignity, and compassion to those facing life’s most challenging moments.
