HOT Cares and Lifestyle College Join Forces to Award Life-Changing Bursary to Mother of Three

A few weeks ago, Hot Cares announced that we had come together with one of our partners, Lifestyle College, to offer an incredible opportunity to someone who loves gardening.

It’s an amazing bursary for a 12-month Landscape Design course, valued at R83 000!

This course has been running for over 25 years and offers in-depth knowledge of the landscape industry. It includes lectures, workshops, practicals and outings, and covers approximately 30 different subjects, enabling the student upon completion to: start their own landscaping business, including design and implementation; work for a landscaping business; or start a consultancy design business.

The course also teaches AutoCAD and provides a year’s free licence to AutoCAD to all its students. Lecturers are fully trained and qualified in their various fields of expertise.

It’s a full-time course, with classes conducted Monday-Friday from 09h00-16h00 at Lifestyle College in Randpark Ridge.

Entrants were required to send through a motivation, along with their details, with Lifestyle College selecting potential candidates for interview, after which they picked a lucky winner.

That winner was then called live on air by HOT 102.7FM’s breakfast show – Joburg’s Hottest Breakfast – and had the news broken to them, and we’re delighted to announce that mother-of-three Bonita Barnfather is the lucky recipient!

“When I first saw this, I thought, what a coincidence!” said Bonita. “I am at a bit of a turning point in my life – all three of my children are now in school and I can really focus on something for myself. I have been trying to find the right path to take and I wished I had studied architecture or something like that when I left school, because I just love design. I recently met a lady who was very encouraging, she happened to be a landscape architect, and I thought, ‘wow, now that sounds amazing!’”

Clearly, it was meant to be and according to Lifestyle College, Bonita’s submission really stood out.

“It was a close and difficult choice to make, as there were such great candidates,” said Richard Gibb, Principal of Lifestyle College. “However, after all the considerations were made, we decided to offer the bursary to Bonita. She deserves this opportunity and we look forward to welcoming her into the class of 2023!”

A very deserving recipient and from everyone at Hot Cares, good luck, Bonita!
