Hot Cares and Silverstar Empower Adelaide Mangena to Regain Independence
Adelaide Mangena is a resilient and dedicated social worker who, despite facing significant physical challenges, continues to provide invaluable support to homeless individuals in Blairgowrie. After suffering a stroke in 2018, Adelaide has worked tirelessly to regain her independence. Through therapy, she made remarkable progress, learning to walk with crutches. However, a fall in 2021 led to a broken ankle and surgery, leaving her fully reliant on a wheelchair.
The state-provided wheelchair she currently uses is too heavy, making her dependent on others for mobility. As a social worker, Adelaide’s ability to move independently is crucial for her to continue her vital work in the community. Her current wheelchair is not only limiting her professional capabilities but also affecting her sense of dignity and self-reliance.
At Hot Cares, we believe in empowering individuals like Adelaide, who have shown incredible strength and perseverance despite life’s challenges. That’s why, in partnership with Silverstar, we are stepping in to provide Adelaide with a new, lighter, and more user-friendly wheelchair, up to the value of R5,000. This wheelchair will enable her to regain her independence, move around more freely, and continue making a positive impact in her community.
