HOT Cares Celebrates Women’s Day by Honouring Baragwanath Nurses
It’s hard to imagine a world without women.
They play a significant role in our lives – be it as mothers, sisters, daughters or friends – and they enrich those lives with their presence, care and love.
It was with this in mind that it was a dual celebration on Ward 32 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, when the Hot Cares team arrived to both celebrate Women’s Day and kick off the project that formed the focal point of our Mandela Day tribute.
The project involves the incredible ‘Surgeons for Little Lives’ team there and the bathrooms and ablution facilities on Ward 32 in the paediatric unit.
Surgeons for Little Lives is run by a small group of paediatric surgeons who are passionate about uplifting the lives of less fortunate South African children in need of life-changing surgery.
As part of Mandela Day, Hot Cares pledged to give the bathrooms, ablutions and other areas within the ward a make-over and revamp. We are putting in new baths and additional showers, reducing the supervision time needed and freeing up more time for the nursing staff.
The bathroom windows are also being repaired and heaters being installed to keep the children warm at bath time. They are also being repainted and will have bath toys and mobiles to brighten up the room and keep the children occupied, especially when they are in pain and having treatment in the bath.
So, Ward 32 is going to be looking quite different pretty soon, making for a much more inviting and user-friendly workspace for the amazing nurses who tend to these poor children.
Hot Cares recognises these incredible nurses, who play such an important role in these children’s lives, and it’s for this reason that we decided to celebrate Women’s Day with them. HOT 102.7FM presenters Bunny Majaja and Dylan Rogers joined us as we surprised the nurses in the middle of their Monday morning meeting, with delicious-looking hampers and a R500 Pick n Pay voucher for each nurse, just so they had something for themselves on this special day.
The surprise visit and gifts seemed to go down well, making for a Women’s Day to remember for these lovely nurses on Ward 32 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.
