Accelerating Rhino conservation with Rhino Connect

This Hot Cares Christmas, we are proud to support Rhino Connect, an organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of South Africa’s rhino population. Their tireless efforts include rescuing orphaned calves, delivering medical care, and providing vital resources to save these iconic animals from the brink of extinction.

Each year, rhino calves are orphaned due to poaching, left vulnerable and in need of immediate care.

Time is critical in these situations, as delays can mean the difference between life and death. Rhino Connect’s work is a lifeline for these calves, offering them a second chance at life.

Recently, two calves, David and Jonathan, were rescued after losing their mothers to poaching. With intensive care, they have not only survived but are thriving—a testament to Rhino Connect’s dedication. However, without a specialized emergency trailer for swift transport, many rhinos remain at risk.

Hot Cares is stepping in to meet this urgent need. We have provided a state-of-the-art emergency trailer valued at R149,000, ensuring Rhino Connect can respond faster and more effectively to rescue calls. Additionally, we are contributing R50,000 toward the feeding and care of David and Jonathan for the next year as they transition from milk to regular feed.

This support will enable Rhino Connect to save more lives, improve rhino welfare, and create a ripple effect in conservation efforts. By equipping them with the tools they need, we’re investing in a brighter future for these magnificent creatures.
