Hot Cares gives the gift of hearing to SPCA Benoni's Ben

At Hot Cares, we believe in transforming lives, and Ben’s story is one that truly moved us. For nearly a decade, Ben has been a dedicated kennel hand at the Benoni SPCA, caring for animals with unmatched compassion. Despite facing significant challenges, including living with 90% hearing loss since the age of 10, Ben has never let his condition hinder his remarkable contributions to the community.

Through sheer resilience and adaptability, Ben has navigated his world of near silence, relying on lip-reading and intuition to excel in his role. Recently, with the help of the SPCA’s vice chair, Ben underwent his first-ever audiology assessment. The results revealed the profound extent of his hearing loss and the life-changing potential of custom, high-quality hearing aids. However, the cost—R40,000—was well beyond Ben’s means.

Hot Cares knew we had to step in. We are thrilled to fund the purchase of these hearing aids, providing Ben with the gift of sound after more than 30 years. But our support doesn’t stop there. We’ll cover follow-up consultations, speech therapy, and a special gift—a high-quality speaker or device of his choice—so he can fully enjoy the world of sound, including music.
