Hot Cares helps little Isabel take her first look at the world

Isabel Robinson is a brave three-year-old girl who’s never seen her mother’s face. Born prematurely at just 32 weeks, Isabel spent her first month in NICU and was later diagnosed with cataracts, leaving her blind. Despite being told there was no hope for her vision, her young mother, Clarissa, never gave up.

Only 16 when Isabel was born, Clarissa returned to school determined to build a better future for them both. Now in matric and working part-time as a model, she has continued to fight for her daughter’s needs. Alongside Isabel’s father, Renaldo—who left school to start working—they sought second and third opinions until they found a specialist who gave them a glimmer of hope. Surgery could restore some vision in Isabel’s left eye, but the cost—over R82,000—was out of reach.

That’s when Hot Cares stepped in.

Moved by Clarissa’s courage and her family’s unshakable determination, Hot Cares has committed to covering the full cost of Isabel’s surgery and post-operative care. This means Isabel may soon be able to experience the world in a whole new way—seeing colours, light, and the faces of the people who love her most.

Thanks to the strength of a young mom, the support of a caring school, and the kindness of Hot Cares listeners, Isabel’s journey toward sight has begun. It’s a story of resilience, hope, and the life-changing power of community.
