Lifesaving support for persian cats in crisis
At Hot Cares, we are often reminded of the incredible people who dedicate their lives to helping those who cannot help themselves. One such person is Sylvia Gonsalves, the founder of Persian Cat Rescue Durban—a sanctuary for Persian cats that have faced abandonment, cruelty, or severe medical neglect.
Sylvia has spent the past 14 years rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming Persian cats, many of which require highly specialized care due to their unique health needs. The breed is often purchased for its beauty, but sadly, when the reality of ongoing medical care and grooming sets in, many cats are discarded.
Recently, Persian Cat Rescue Durban was hit with a massive R40,000 vet bill following emergency surgeries for three of their beloved rescues—Tucker, Ginger Biscuit, and Mau Mau. Each surgery was lifesaving, and without intervention, these cats would have endured immense suffering.
The sanctuary operates on tight resources, relying on grooming services and a small team to manage the daily needs of dozens of cats. With increasing medical emergencies, the strain has become almost unbearable.
Hot Cares couldn’t turn away from this story. We were deeply moved by Sylvia’s compassion and commitment and decided to help in a meaningful way.
Hot Cares has stepped in to cover the full R40,000 veterinary bill—ensuring that Tucker, Ginger Biscuit, and Mau Mau continue their recovery in safety and comfort. Additionally, knowing that a working tumble dryer is essential to Sylvia’s grooming service, we’re also purchasing a brand-new dryer up to the value of R20,000.
Sylvia, thank you for being a beacon of hope to these beautiful animals. You’re not alone—Hot Cares stands with you.
