Removing transport barrier for hardworking siblings in need
At Hot Cares, we believe in the power of education to change lives. That’s why, when we heard about two dedicated siblings facing the risk of missing school simply because they couldn’t afford transport, we knew we had to act.
These hardworking students, one currently in Grade 11, live in Windsor and have shown remarkable commitment to their education despite facing extreme financial challenges. Their story was brought to us by People4Purpose NPO, after the principal and educators at their school personally advocated on their behalf. It was clear these siblings had potential—and that their education was hanging in the balance.
The cost of transport, R1,000 per learner per month, added up to R24,000 for the year—an amount their family simply could not afford. Without this support, their school attendance would suffer, putting their future at risk. Missing critical classroom time, especially in Grade 11, could mean the difference between success and slipping through the cracks.
We knew that securing transport for these siblings was about more than just getting them to school—it was about giving them a chance to build a brighter future and break the cycle of poverty.
Hot Cares, together with Silverstar, stepped in to ensure these two students could focus on their studies without the daily worry of how they would get to school. The support of the principal and teachers was a reminder that when a community believes in young people, amazing things can happen.
This initiative is about more than covering transport costs. It’s about investing in potential, creating opportunities, and ensuring every child gets the education they deserve. Because at Hot Cares, we know that sometimes, something as simple as a bus fare can be the key to unlocking a future full of possibilities.
