Support for Liandrie: A Brighter Future Through Community Assistance

Liandrie, a brave five-year-old girl born with a unilateral/combination cleft, has faced numerous challenges throughout her young life. From her early days in the NICU to multiple surgeries, she has shown remarkable resilience. Currently, she is in urgent need of a new mouth plate, which is essential for preparing her jaw for an upcoming osteotomy procedure. Without this critical treatment, her ability to eat, drink, and communicate effectively could be severely compromised, impacting her overall quality of life.

Liandrie’s family, residing in Potchefstroom, has been proactive in seeking support for her medical needs. They have organized fundraising events and secured loans for previous surgeries but are now facing overwhelming financial strain. The mouth plate and orthodontic treatments, totaling R45,000, have been deemed “cosmetic” by their medical aid, resulting in consistent claim rejections despite recommendations from medical professionals. The family has set up a BackaBuddy account and sought assistance from friends and family, but their efforts have not generated enough funds.

Recognizing the urgency of Liandrie’s situation, Hot Cares reached out to The Dis-Chem Foundation, which has stepped up to make a significant difference in Liandrie’s life. They have generously agreed to cover the full R45,000 needed for her mouth plate and associated treatments.

This vital support will enhance Liandrie’s immediate health and development, allowing her to focus on being a happy child. With the necessary treatment, she will be better equipped to engage in her education and pursue her passion for singing. Together, Hot Cares and The Dis-Chem Foundation are committed to ensuring that every child, like Liandrie, has the opportunity to thrive, fostering a brighter future filled with potential and joy.
