Hot Cares supports Cat Angel Refuge after devastating equipment loss
Cat Angel Refuge has become a beacon of hope in the vast Ramotshere Moiloa district in the North West province, covering over 7,000 km² with no other animal welfare organization in sight. Founded in 2017 and driven by a small but passionate team, this non-profit has gone beyond rescuing cats, extending care and compassion to all animals in desperate need.
With just three unpaid core team members—Joanne, Karen, and Luke—Cat Angel Refuge provides life-saving interventions in cruelty cases, education, and sterilization programs. Their work is supported by a handful of part-time helpers, but they remain the district’s only line of defense for countless animals.
In February 2025, tragedy struck. Load shedding and low voltage issues led to severe equipment damage, resulting in the loss of nearly R40,000 worth of essential supplies—everything from a freezer and fridge to animal food and medical items. Their insurance claims were rejected, leaving them to shoulder the cost and threatening the continuation of their vital work.
Hot Cares was deeply moved by their story and the unwavering dedication of their team, who often dig into their own pockets to serve the animals and educate the next generation of responsible pet owners.
Thanks to the generosity of our Hot 1027 listeners, Hot Cares is stepping in to help. We are donating R40,000 to replace the lost items, and an additional R20,000 to support their education and sterilization programs.
This contribution aims to keep their critical work going strong. Cat Angel Refuge’s resilience and commitment are inspirational, and we’re honoured to support them in making a difference—one paw at a time.
