Hot Cares covers fees for student who used her inheritance to study

At the heart of a women’s shelter in Krugersdorp is a woman who embodies courage, compassion, and resilience. Heidi Harms has dedicated her life to helping survivors of gender-based violence rebuild theirs — offering refuge, support, and unwavering care to women and children who have nowhere else to turn.

A survivor herself, Heidi knows the weight of trauma. Since founding the Safe Haven in 2021, she has led with empathy and strength — ensuring 14 women and 13 children have meals, beds, emotional support, and a chance at a new beginning. She also manages the Day Care Centre on the same premises, where 70 children are cared for daily.

But Heidi’s ability to lead has recently been challenged. Trauma from her past has resulted in severe hearing loss, and her current hearing aids are no longer reliable — producing loud static and cutting her off from the very people she works so hard to uplift.

That’s where our friends at Silverstar stepped in.

Deeply moved by Heidi’s story, Nadia Godrige from Silverstar reached out to Hot Cares wanting to help in a meaningful way. Together, we are covering the full cost of a professional audiology consultation, new hearing aids, and all follow-up fittings — up to R30 000.

Because to serve others, Heidi needs to be able to hear clearly. Her work depends on connection, presence, and compassion — and hearing is at the centre of it all.
