Silverstar helps self-funded heroes saving lives across Joburg

Guardian Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service is a fully self-funded team of volunteer paramedics and firefighters that shows up where help is scarce — from Linden through Sophiatown and Brixton, and beyond. Their ALS and ILS paramedics carry drug bags and defibrillators so they can respond to life-threatening emergencies in minutes, not hours.

Recently, the team faced multiple critical cases and came perilously close to running out of essential supplies — a stark reminder that every vial, every battery, and every bag matters when a life hangs in the balance. Because they cover their own fuel, disposables, and equipment, even core items like a stocked paramedic drug bag (R9,000) and a Philips defibrillator battery (R8,000) are a heavy lift.
