Hot Cares and Silverstar build safety and smiles at Khwanazi Creche

Khwanazi Creche in Diepsloot is where big dreams start small. Every weekday, Bella Baloyi opens her gate to a group of two-to-five-year-olds who arrive hungry to learn—and leave a little braver than they came. For just R400 a month per child, the creche provides full-day care, two meals, and the kind of nurturing that helps little minds bloom.

But one thing stood in the way of growth and safety: the boundary. A broken fence and flimsy gate made parents uneasy, limiting enrolments and threatening sustainability. That’s when friend and supporter Hayley Watters stepped in—marking her 40th birthday by raising funds for a secure wall and gate. She rallied friends and family, covered essentials throughout the year, and brought Khwanazi’s story to Hot Cares.

That’s where our partners at Silverstar stepped up, contributing R70 000 to completely transform the space. Their generous donation is funding the full cost of the new wall and secure gate, while also turning the yard into a colourful, safe, and welcoming environment with a jungle gym, artificial grass, and educational carpets.

These upgrades will not only give the children a safe place to play and learn, but also allow Bella to enrol more children—strengthening the creche’s sustainability and giving more families access to quality early childhood care.

This is what community looks like: a determined founder, a friend who wouldn’t give up, and partners who believe that every child deserves safety, dignity, and delight. With a secure perimeter and a purposeful playground, Khwanazi Creche is now ready to grow—and to continue changing little lives in big ways.
