Hot Cares and Silverstar help young learners in Cosmo City find their rhythm

In Cosmo City, the sound of small hands tapping out rhythms is doing far more than making music. It’s helping young children build confidence, connection, and the skills they need for school — and for life.

Kids with Rhythm was founded to give hope and inspiration to children from difficult backgrounds through the power of music and movement. Today, the programme also supports early childhood development in underprivileged communities, using rhythm, play, and group activities to nurture children aged three to six. 

Each week, children gather for lively sessions filled with clapping exercises, drumming circles, songs and movement games. These playful activities are carefully designed to strengthen listening skills, coordination, memory, and social interaction — all essential building blocks for learning.

Founder Tshepo Machitele has already seen the impact.

“Rhythm helps children focus, listen and work together,” he explains. “You can see their confidence growing with every session.”

But while the programme was already making a difference, keeping the sessions running and expanding the reach meant having the right equipment.

When Hot Cares heard about the work being done, it was clear that this initiative was helping young children unlock their potential in a joyful and meaningful way.

Thanks to the generosity of Silverstar, Hot Cares was able to step in and ensure that the programme received 10 bongo drums and a sound system — giving dozens of children the chance to fully participate in these rhythm-based learning sessions.

Today, around 70 children take part in the programme each week, discovering the joy of music while developing confidence, teamwork and communication skills.

It’s a powerful reminder that sometimes the simplest tools — a drum, a song, a shared rhythm — can help shape brighter futures for the youngest members of a community.
