Hope in every hamper: Hot Cares answers Adies’ call

At Hoërskool Die Adelaar in Witpoortjie, compassion is more than a value — it’s something learners live every single day.

For years, the school has been quietly supporting vulnerable families through its nutrition programme, providing food parcels to pupils who need them most. But as the need continues to grow, so too has the determination of the school community.

Teacher Alexandria Moodley, who has been driving the initiative, has seen first-hand what hunger looks like in the classroom.

Sometimes it’s a learner struggling to focus. Sometimes it’s fatigue. Sometimes, heartbreakingly, it’s children fainting because they simply haven’t eaten.

What makes this story even more moving is the way the learners themselves have responded. With supplies limited, pupils have created a fair sharing system — one learner receives a parcel this week, another the next — ensuring as many families as possible are supported.

That extraordinary spirit of care is exactly why Hot Cares has stepped in.

To help strengthen the school’s efforts, Hot Cares is donating R15,000 worth of non-perishable food packs, with each hamper designed to feed a family of four.

But the support doesn’t stop there.

Understanding that dignity and education go hand in hand, Hot Cares is also donating 500 packs of reusable sanitary towels, helping young girls stay in school with confidence and without interruption.

This is about so much more than food and essential products.

It’s about restoring stability in homes under pressure.

It’s about making sure learners can focus on lessons instead of hunger.

And it’s about reminding every child at Adies that their community sees them, values them, and refuses to let them face hardship alone.
