Where books meet opportunity: Hot Cares steps in for Edu Fun

On World Book Day, the focus often falls on the joy of reading — but in many South African communities, access to books is still far from guaranteed.

For Jenny Taylor and her team at Edu Fun, that reality is something they work to change every single day. Through their outreach into areas like Diepsloot and Alexandra, they’re helping learners build the foundational reading skills that can shape the course of their lives.

“Books open up a world that many of these children have never had access to before,” Jenny explains. “When they start to read and understand, you see their confidence grow almost immediately.”

At the heart of Edu Fun’s work is their internal library — a vital resource used to support teachers, therapists, and parents working directly with children who need extra help. But like so many organisations doing critical work, resources are stretched, and the need for more books is constant.

That’s where Hot Cares steps in.

With a donation of R30 000 towards new books, Hot Cares is helping to strengthen this library — and, in turn, the impact Edu Fun can have across multiple communities.

“One book doesn’t just help one child,” Jenny says. “It supports the people teaching them, guiding them, and helping them believe in themselves. The reach is far bigger than what you see on the shelf.”
