After years of loss, Hot Cares helps Ane-Marie look toward the future

After losing her only child to leukaemia, Ane-Marie Huculiak gave everything she had in the fight to save him. Every cent, every ounce of strength, every bit of hope was poured into giving her son a chance. When he passed away, she was left grieving not only the loss of her child, but also the loss of the financial security she had worked so hard to build.

Still, Ane-Marie carried on.

Working as a guesthouse manager in Brits, she quietly tried to rebuild her life despite the heartbreak she carried every day. But just as she began finding her footing again, another devastating challenge arrived — a severe retinal detachment threatening her eyesight. Without urgent surgery, Ane-Marie faced the terrifying possibility of losing her vision permanently, along with her ability to work and remain independent.

Friends rallied around her, helping raise R7,800 through BackaBuddy donations, but the momentum eventually slowed. The surgery remained out of reach, and time was running out.
