Comic Con opportunity opens new doors for A New Hope Dog Rescue

For animal rescue organisations, compassion is only part of the journey. Behind every rescued animal is the ongoing need for food, veterinary care, safe spaces, rehabilitation, and the resources needed to give them the second chance they deserve.

That’s why Hot Cares is proud to support A New Hope Dog Rescue, helping this dedicated organisation continue changing the lives of vulnerable animals across South Africa.

Based in Roodepoort, A New Hope Dog Rescue is a family-run, pro-life shelter that has created a unique environment for animals who have often come from difficult circumstances. Instead of traditional kennels, many of their dogs experience the comfort of a home environment – some sleeping inside for the first time in their lives.

“We don’t work on a kennel system,” explains founder Kevin Stirling. “All the dogs are either inside or on the couch, and they have contact with us the whole time. It’s a good, happy, healthy home environment for them.”

While their focus remains dogs, their compassion has also extended to cats in need, with the shelter now caring for several cats as part of its growing rescue efforts.

One of the things that stood out for Hot Cares is A New Hope’s commitment to creating their own opportunities.

Comic Con Africa has become their biggest annual fundraiser, allowing them to sell custom merchandise, raise awareness, and connect with people who may not usually engage with animal welfare campaigns.

“Comic Con is definitely our biggest one, and we get our biggest funds from that, which help us to do a lot of maintenance at the rescue,” says Kevin.

To help make this important fundraising opportunity possible, Hot Cares is covering the cost of the Comic Con Africa 2026 stand, printing supplies, and merchandise stock to the value of R35 817.35.

For Kevin and the team, the support means they can focus on what matters most – helping animals who cannot speak for themselves.

“I cannot tell you how wonderful that is,” says Kevin. “That’s such a relief and a stress off our shoulders… knowing we can go and have the stock to sell is absolutely terrific.”

Because sometimes making a meaningful difference means helping those who help others.
