A foundation of hope for young learners in Dobsonville

Atlegang Bana Foundation (ABF) is more than a non-profit. It’s a movement of hope, healing, and holistic development. Based in Dobsonville, Soweto, this grassroots organisation has been quietly transforming lives since 2015 — stepping in where overcrowded classrooms and limited resources leave vulnerable learners behind.

Every Saturday, a team of passionate volunteers creates a safe, engaging space where foundation-phase learners receive the support they desperately need. From literacy to emotional development, from maths to movement, ABF nurtures every child’s potential through structured play, mentorship, and love.

Many of these children arrive with academic gaps and emotional burdens, but when they step into ABF’s learning environment, something changes. They are met with kindness, focus, and encouragement — and suddenly, learning becomes joyful again. Storybooks ignite imagination, building blocks spark creativity, and sensory bins offer comfort and connection.

Behind it all is Katlego Thwane — or as the children know him, “Papa Bana.” A visionary with an unshakable belief in the power of education, Katlego also serves as principal of the Wings of Life Educate Centre under Afrika Tikkun in Diepsloot. His work reflects a rare kind of leadership — grounded in humility, compassion, and deep community engagement.

When Hot Cares heard about the incredible work being done at ABF, we reached out to our friends at Silverstar, who were equally moved by the impact this foundation is making. Together, we’re proud to support ABF with educational toys, puzzles, a water play table, sensory bins, and storage solutions — all valued at R20,000.

We hope this gift helps unlock even more potential in these young minds. Because every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and dream.
