A lifeline for 152 residents at Avril Elizabeth Home
At the heart of Germiston lies the Avril Elizabeth Home, a sanctuary of compassion where 152 individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities receive round-the-clock care. Operating since 1971, the Home has become a beacon of hope for residents and their families. But like many NPOs, it’s facing unprecedented financial strain.
Hot Cares, in partnership with the Dis-Chem Foundation, recently visited the Home to learn more about their urgent needs—from essential medical care for residents with neurological disorders and muscular dystrophy, to food supplies for their in-house bakery, which is proudly run by one of their own residents.
Moved by the dedication of the staff and the vulnerable community they serve, Hot Cares and Dis-Chem Foundation joined forces to make a tangible difference.
Dis-Chem Foundation will sponsor three months’ worth of flour (R33,000) for the bakery and provide a R20,000 store account over six months for vital medical and hygiene products. Meanwhile, Hot Cares will step in with R50,000 in medical assistance—covering the costs of monthly medication for two residents and a once-off MRI for a third resident in critical condition.
This collaboration stands as a testament to the power of community and corporate partnership. Together, we’re helping Avril Elizabeth Home not just survive—but thrive—ensuring their residents continue to receive the love, dignity, and care they so rightly deserve.
