After a week of nonstop rain, Randburg SPCA kennels get a raised bed upgrade

With relentless rain soaking Johannesburg over the past week — and more expected — the conditions at the Randburg SPCA have become especially challenging for the animals in their care. Many of the dogs have been sleeping on cold, damp floors, and the organisation recently put out a plea for elevated dog beds to help keep their kennels warm, dry, and safe.

These raised beds may seem simple, but for a shelter dog they offer something far more meaningful: comfort, dignity, and relief. They lift animals out of the cold, improve hygiene, and provide a secure space where stressed or frightened dogs can rest. For many of the animals who arrive at the SPCA scared, sick, or neglected, something as small as a dry place to sleep is the first kindness they experience.

This week’s Silverstar Pays It Forward focused on answering that call for help. Early on Wednesday morning, Reverend Shona visited the Randburg SPCA with Nadia Godridge from Silverstar to deliver some much-needed support.

After hearing about the SPCA’s urgent need for elevated dog beds, Silverstar stepped in — generously donating 20 beds to help transform conditions for the animals.
