HOT Cares, Furniture Mart, The Bed Mart and Heriz Gallery Help Transform Child Care Centre
Hot Cares just loves hearing about kind people who go out of their way to improve the lives of those less fortunate than them, and this story certainly ticked that box.
About 18 months ago, The Barn Christian Fellowship, a registered non-profit organisation based in Boskruin, was approached to see if it could provide assistance to a childcare centre in Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape – Huis Triomf Youth and Child Care Centre.
This home was opened in 1991 and was initially set up to care for street children, but in the past 30 years has evolved to cater to kids who are neglected or who come from broken homes with poor living conditions.
When The Barn was approached, the centre was an old railway hostel, under the ownership of the local council, but with little work done on its upkeep over the past 30 years.
The Barn’s Pastor Roelof Kwant visited the centre and took the decision to attempt to transform the property and make it a more welcoming environment for the kids housed there. 18 months later, and following an investment of approximately a million rand, with extensive work done on the bathrooms and kitchen, Huis Triomf is a different place.
It currently looks after boys aged between seven and 17, who have been placed at the centre by the Department of Social Development, and whilst The Barn has obviously done incredible work, making Huis Triomf more welcoming and comfortable, there is obviously a limit to how much money it is able to contribute to the running of this facility.
As it is, the property still needs a lot of work done to it. For example, the outside areas are just covered in sand, so one of the next projects will be to grass the area outside the home, as well as look at possibly investing in a swimming pool, games room, study room, gym etc. These sorts of facilities are obviously important to keep the boys active, entertained and out of mischief!
For now, though, Huis Triomf’s needs are in another department and that’s why The Barn contacted Hot Cares. Specifically, the home is in desperate need of single bed mattresses for 30 young boys.
Fortunately, Hot Cares has some amazing longstanding partners and friends, like Furniture Mart and The Bed Mart, who both didn’t hesitate to get involved and in a flash donated 10 single bed mattresses!
Thank you, Furniture Mart and The Bed Mart!
Hot Cares would like to at least match that generosity, so we will be covering the balance and ensuring that a total of 30 mattresses makes its way to Huis Triomf!
On top of that, Hot Cares has another fantastic partner, in the form of Heriz Gallery in Fourways, and they have come onboard with the most beautiful premium Afghan carpet, which they would like to donate to Huis Trimof, to make it feel more homely.
The total value of this donation is R32 970!
