Silverstar helps Hot Cares return Owami to the care she needs

Hot Cares, together with our friends at Silverstar, is standing with Noma and her granddaughter, Owami Sahula — an 18-year-old living with cerebral palsy and blindness. Since losing her mom to cancer three years ago, Owami has relied entirely on her grandmother, a pensioner who provides round-the-clock care.

Owami’s hands are largely non-functional and her communication is limited, so even everyday tasks require assistance. For years, the specialised centre she attended provided essential therapy, structured stimulation, and a sense of community — the kind of support that helps maintain mobility, prevents complications, and keeps her mind engaged. But a recent loss of sponsorship forced Owami to stay home, cutting off the therapies and social interaction that make such a difference to her quality of life.

When Hot Cares heard about the situation, we reached out to Silverstar. Like us, they were moved by Noma’s unwavering dedication — from daily walks and music at home, to the careful planning she’s put in place for Owami’s long-term care. Together, we’re helping to return Owami to the environment that best meets her needs.

With support in place for Owami’s centre fees, Noma has peace of mind knowing her granddaughter will receive the specialised therapies and one-on-one attention she deserves — and even the chance to explore some temporary work to supplement the household income.
