Teddython 2025 proves there’s nothing small about the spirit of giving

Hot Cares has once again proven the extraordinary heart of Johannesburg — and Gauteng — with Teddython 2025 surpassing all expectations to raise an incredible R31.5 million in cash, goods, and services.

Hosted live from Papachinos Broadacres on HOT 102.7FM, the 12-hour telethon became a showcase of generosity, compassion, and unity. The original target of R20 million was left far behind as donations poured in — not just from big corporates, but from ordinary listeners moved to make a difference.

“Some of the most touching moments came from those who gave what little they had,” said HOT 102.7FM Managing Director Lloyd Madurai. “An elderly couple arrived with a R200 note, a young girl brought her jam jar of pocket money, and a little one named Piper hand-made cards for every presenter. That’s the true spirit of Hot Cares — people giving from the heart.”

Reverend Shona echoed the sentiment, adding that the funds raised will fuel Hot Cares’ work across humanitarian and welfare, healthcare and medical, education, and animal welfare initiatives throughout 2026. “People phoned in apologizing for small amounts — R50, R100 — and yet, it’s these recurring donations that sustain us month after month. It’s the heart behind the giving that moves us most,” she said.

Major pledges included R1.5 million in bursaries for students, along with vital products and services such as food donations and logistical support that will directly uplift communities in need.

As Lloyd summed up, “The telethon may be over, but the work is only beginning. Now, it’s our turn to turn those Rands and resources into real impact for the people who need it most.”
