From risk to relief: the moment Hot Cares and Silverstar stepped in for CLAW

In communities where resources are scarce and the need is overwhelming, organisations like CLAW — Community Led Animal Welfare — are a lifeline.

Working across under-resourced communities, including areas like Durban Deep on the West Rand, CLAW provides rescue, sterilisation, rehabilitation, and education services to some of the most vulnerable animals. With no government funding and limited resources, their work is driven purely by dedication, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to both animals and the people who care for them.

But recently, that work was placed at risk.

A damaged security gate left the property exposed — putting animals recovering from neglect and abuse, as well as staff and volunteers, in danger. In an area affected by ongoing illegal mining activity, security isn’t a luxury… it’s essential.

“We can’t close this gate… our yard is exposed, which is a massive concern.”

For CLAW, this wasn’t just about infrastructure. It was about protecting everything they’ve built — their animals, their resources, and their ability to continue operating safely.

That’s where Hot Cares stepped in.

Understanding the urgency, Hot Cares partnered with Silverstar to ensure CLAW could continue their work safely — restoring not just a gate, but peace of mind.

“Your staff and volunteers face emotional trauma and heartbreaking cases every day… this is a burden you simply should not have to carry,” Silverstar shared.

Together, they funded a brand-new security gate, a reinforced brick structure, and additional protection for CLAW’s solar panels — safeguarding the clinic’s ability to operate without disruption.

Today, that support is already making a difference.

With improved security in place, CLAW can focus on what truly matters — rescuing, rehabilitating, and giving vulnerable animals a second chance, while continuing to uplift the community around them.
