A helping hand in every block: Hot Cares funds life-changing hoists

At Hot Cares, we believe everyone deserves to live with dignity and care, especially those facing profound physical challenges. That’s why the story of the Ann Harding Cheshire Home deeply resonated with us.

This remarkable organisation provides 24-hour care to residents with severe physical disabilities—many of whom rely entirely on hoists to move safely from their beds to wheelchairs, shower chairs, or the toilet. Without functioning hoists, even these simple actions become dangerous and undignified.

The Home has been operating under immense strain, using outdated equipment that’s no longer repairable. In fact, only one working hoist—on loan from a resident—was serving over 30 individuals, resulting in late starts, missed appointments, and heightened physical risk for both residents and caregivers.

When we heard their story, and met incredible individuals like Tom Sundawo—a resident left paraplegic after a robbery, who now fundraises for himself and others—we knew we had to help.

Thanks to the generosity of our listeners, Hot Cares is proud to step in and fully fund three brand-new hydraulic hoists, valued at R95 475.93. This means each block at Ann Harding Cheshire Home will now have its own hoist, ensuring safer, more efficient care and restoring dignity to residents’ daily routines.
