Hot Cares and Jet Ubunye bring hope and healing to Marang House

At Hot Cares, we believe that every child deserves more than just treatment for their illness — they deserve the chance to live in a safe, loving home where they can heal, grow, and thrive. That’s exactly what Marang House in Roosevelt Park, Johannesburg, provides.

For children living with serious long-term illnesses such as renal failure, diabetes, lung infections, and cardiac conditions, Marang House is a lifeline. Without it, many would face months, even years, in hospital wards far from home. Instead, here they receive 24-hour medical care while enjoying the warmth of a family-like environment. Education, nutritious meals, stability, and above all, dignity, are part of daily life for the 12 children currently in their care.

Founded in 1998 by the late Dr Pieter Ernst, Marang House has welcomed more than 100 children through its doors, with over 65 of them going on to live healthy, independent lives. It’s a living example that healing isn’t only about medicine, but also about love, care, and hope.

Running a home like this is no small feat. With no government funding, Marang House depends entirely on the kindness of individuals, companies, and community partners. That’s where Hot Cares, together with our friends at Jet Ubunye, wanted to step in.

We are proud to be supporting Marang House with clothing for the summer months, essential school supplies, and nutritional support through the end of the year — all valued at R30,000. And because childhood should be filled with laughter and joy, we’ve also included classic board and card games so that the children can share moments of fun together.

This support is a reminder of what’s possible when community and compassion come together. At Marang House, healing is about more than survival — it’s about helping children truly live.
