Hot Cares and Silverstar step in to support Joburg Ballet learners

For six young dancers from Soweto, the road to Braamfontein is more than a commute — it’s a bridge to possibility. The Joburg Ballet School (JBS), a centre of excellence for learners aged 6 to 17, offers rigorous, vocational ballet training that builds technique, discipline, and confidence — the kind of foundation that can open doors to scholarships, further study, and professional careers. But for some families, the cost of getting to class has become the single biggest barrier between talent and opportunity. 

JBS asks parents to contribute a modest monthly fee toward a programme valued at R21,000 per student. Even so, many households face real financial pressure — and when transport money runs out, attendance suffers. In ballet, momentum matters: every missed lesson can set back weeks of progress and chip away at a child’s sense of belonging. That’s why this appeal is about more than logistics. It’s about safeguarding the consistency that turns potential into performance. 

Six committed learners have been identified for transport assistance from Soweto to Braamfontein and back — a cost of R5,760 per month in total. Covering this need through to December 2025 ensures stability, focus, and the continuity required for growth. It keeps children in studios where discipline is learned, artistry is nurtured, and futures are built.
