HOT Cares and Silverstar Casino Pay it Forward with Injured School Sports Star

Hot Cares and Silverstar Casino continue to ‘pay it forward’ with another heart-warming story.

It’s part of the Silverstar Pays It Forward campaign, in partnership with HOT 102.7FM and HOT Cares.

Hot Cares and Silverstar are calling for nominations, for individuals, initiatives or organizations that could do with some help. You know – the ones that really deserve some assistance.

Every Wednesday on the HOT 1027 Breakfast, a life will be changed. See further below for contact details.

Our next story concerns 17-year-old Damian, who attends Hoërskool Noordheuwel and absolutely lives for his cricket, representing the school’s first team.

Unfortunately, during a school match in July, he picked up a back injury and has been in extreme discomfort and pain since. This has affected him both physically and mentally, as Damian has had to miss out on the sport that gives him the most joy.

He’s already been to see a chiropractor and had x-rays on his back, but he really needs a MRI scan to get a full picture of the damage to his back and the extent of the injury. It would also determine the correct treatment and prevent further serious lifelong damage.

As you can imagine, an MRI scan doesn’t come cheap and actually costs a little under R11 000, which is, unfortunately, out of reach for Damian’s family, as their basic medical aid plan doesn’t cover the much-needed MRI scan.

Damian’s father, Schalk, is doing all he can to support his family, but their family budget is limited to a basic and affordable medical. The chiropractor visits are also not covered and Schalk is paying R1400 a session, which is putting huge strain on the family’s finances.

This was something he was able to communicate to the HOT 1027 Breakfast team, who spoke with Schalk on air. You just had to hear this father speak about his son and the impact of the injury on him to get a sense of just how big a deal this issue is in the young life of Damian and the implications for his family.

That’s why Silverstar and Hot Cares want to do whatever they can to help.

With this in mind, Silverstar will be covering the R10 800 needed for the MRI scan!

But that’s not all.

Silverstar will also be stumping up for the physiotherapy Damian needs after the MRI scan and giving him four tickets to go and watch the South African national team take on Australia in a one-day international at DP World Wanderers Stadium on the 17th of September, including all food and drink on the day!
