Hot Cares backs student medics making a difference on and off campus
At Hot Cares, we know that true leadership is about lifting others as you rise – and the student volunteers at Wrap-It-Up embody that spirit every day.
This dynamic, student-led society at Wits University’s Health Sciences Campus began in 2013 as a small tutoring initiative for first-year students. Today, it’s a full-scale academic support network helping peers across Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, and other health science disciplines – all at no cost.
Run entirely by 13 dedicated medical students, Wrap-It-Up offers tutorials, workshops, and mentorship while juggling their own demanding studies and hospital rotations. Their work extends beyond the campus too – from Mandela Day hospital visits to ongoing food and toiletry drives, and even high school outreach to help underserved learners.
Now, they faced two pressing needs:
-
13 branded medical scrubs (R15,500) to wear during hospital rotations, outreach, and fundraising – a professional and unifying symbol of their work.
-
Support for their Women’s Day hygiene drive, aimed at providing essential self-care items to 100 female bursary students in need.

For these volunteers, the cost of scrubs and hygiene essentials is a barrier. Yet these items mean dignity, visibility, and a sense of belonging – both for the team and the women they’re helping.
Hot Cares was moved by their heart for service and their commitment to helping others succeed. That’s why we’re covering the full cost of the scrubs and contributing R10,000 towards their Women’s Day drive.
To the Wrap-It-Up team – thank you for being a light in our healthcare community. You remind us that small acts of support can have a ripple effect that reaches hospital wards, lecture halls, and communities in need.
