Hot Cares helps 12-year-old Kayla hear the world again

At just 12 years old, Kayla has faced a lifetime of medical challenges — but through it all, she’s remained bright, brave, and full of heart.

From the moment she was born, her journey has been anything but easy. Diagnosed with a cleft palate, coloboma syndrome, and hearing complications, Kayla has endured numerous operations, therapies, and daily obstacles. Yet she continues to face each day with determination and grace.

Her family has stood by her every step of the way, fighting to give her a normal life. But after years of mounting medical expenses, job loss, and additional caregiving responsibilities, they’ve reached a point where they simply cannot continue alone.

That’s when her older sister Kristen reached out to Hot Cares with a heartfelt plea — and we knew we had to help.

Kayla now requires urgent surgery to replace her grommets with more durable “T-tube” alternatives. Without this, her hearing will continue to deteriorate. She wakes up in fear, wondering if she’s lost her hearing entirely, and she struggles daily to engage at school and connect with the world around her.

Thanks to the generosity of the Hot 102.7FM community, Hot Cares is stepping in to cover the full cost of Kayla’s procedure — nearly R20,000. And if post-op assessments confirm the need for hearing aids, we’ll fund those too, up to R40,000.

That’s R60,000 dedicated to restoring one little girl’s ability to hear, communicate, and flourish.
