Hot Cares steps in to keep Luan’s dream of matric alive

That’s why when we received the heartfelt request to support 18-year-old Luan du Plessis, we knew we had to act. Luan, who lives in Witbank under the loving care of his grandmother, Louise, has faced more than his fair share of challenges. From repeated trauma and emotional hardship to the debilitating stutter that has isolated him socially, his life has been one of quiet resilience.

Despite the odds, Luan continues to show up to school each day. He’s currently repeating Grade 11—not because of a lack of ability, but because financial hardship has interrupted his progress. He was recently deregistered from the Neuro Educare Centre due to unpaid fees, and although he still attends informally, he hasn’t been able to write a single exam this year.

But Luan’s story is not one of defeat—it’s one of hope. His school believes in him. His gran believes in him. And now, so do we.

Hot Cares will be covering the full R57,000 needed to ensure Luan can complete his Grade 11 year. This includes school fees, tutoring, and therapeutic support to help him manage his stutter and heal from past trauma.
