Teddython 2025 proves there’s nothing small about the spirit of giving

Johannesburg’s favourite feel-good station, HOT 102.7FM, has once again proven the power of generosity — raising an extraordinary R31.5 million in just 12 hours during its annual Teddython for Hot Cares, the station’s official charity arm.

Broadcast live from Papachinos Broadacres, this year’s event surpassed every previous record and far exceeded the R20-million target, as listeners, sponsors, and corporate partners came together in a true celebration of Joburg’s giving spirit.

From the early morning pledges to last-minute surges, the atmosphere was electric. Donations poured in from every corner — from individuals giving what they could to big-hearted businesses making major contributions. Among the highlights was a R1-million cash donation from Antonio Iozzo, Group CEO of Alpha Group, while Ecomed Medical sealed the day with a show-stopping R5-million pledge in the final hour, taking the total to R31,503,725.

“We are blown away by the support of our HOT community,” said Lloyd Madurai, Managing Director of HOT 102.7FM. “Every rand represents someone choosing kindness. Giving isn’t about how much you have, but how much you care — and our listeners care deeply.”

Funds raised through Teddython fuel Hot Cares’ four key pillars: Humanitarian & Welfare, Healthcare & Medical, Education, and Animal Welfare. They support everything from medical treatments and school supplies to food security and animal shelter upgrades — bringing hope and dignity to communities across Gauteng.

Madurai added, “Our generous listeners have done their bit — now it’s up to us to make sure every donation reaches those who need it most. The impact will be felt far and wide.”
