When every heartbeat feels uncertain, Silverstar steps in for Michael

For years, Michael Lansdown has been the person others turn to — the calm presence behind the salon chair, the reassuring conversation that can brighten even the hardest day, and the familiar face who helps people leave feeling a little more like themselves.

Described by his sister Sandra as “soft natured and kind”, Michael has spent his life caring for others through his work as a hairstylist, quietly showing up for his clients day after day.

But behind the warm smile and steady hands is a battle few people see.

After surviving two heart attacks in 2024 — one so severe that he flatlined three times — Michael’s life changed in an instant.

“The doctors twice now from the angiograms have said that my heart is only operating at 10%.”

Despite everything, he has continued to work, standing for hours at a time in a physically demanding profession, because stopping simply isn’t an option.

For Michael, the reality has been brutally simple: if he doesn’t work, there is no income.

That means no rent, no transport to follow-up appointments, and no financial breathing room to recover.

“You are literally having to choose between an income and your health.”

Soon, Michael will undergo a critical procedure to help stabilise his heart — but recovery requires more than medical care. It needs time, rest, nutrition, and peace of mind.

When Hot Cares heard Michael’s story, they turned to their long-time partners at Silverstar, whose generosity continues to change lives in the moments that matter most.

Through the Silverstar Pay It Forward campaign, Michael will now receive R25 000 in support to help cover his living expenses, transport for aftercare appointments, and nutritional needs during the crucial three months following his procedure.

It is more than financial support.

It is the chance to rest.
The chance to heal.
And the chance for someone who has spent his life caring for others to finally be cared for himself.

For one little boy, a life-changing gift means more moments to just be a child
