They run toward danger — and now, someone finally ran toward them

In moments of crisis — when a fire rages, a child goes missing, or a vehicle accident threatens lives — Emergency Control Services South Africa (ECSA) doesn’t hesitate. This remarkable non-profit organisation, made up entirely of volunteers, steps in when it matters most, offering life-saving services in District 6 and beyond. Their work spans fire and rescue, search and rescue, technical response, and public education — all carried out at their own cost.

Each of the 30+ trained firefighters, medics, and rescue specialists gives their time, skills, and even their own resources — from fuel and protective gear to emergency supplies — because they believe that every life is worth saving.

Recognising their tireless dedication, Hot Cares and Silverstar partnered to make a meaningful difference. Through a R25,000 donation, this initiative will help cover critical monthly consumables, maintain life-saving equipment, and provide protective gear — ensuring that these everyday heroes are ready when the next call comes in.

But ECSA’s impact goes even further. Beyond emergencies, they’re shaping future leaders through their work in schools, teaching children about fire safety, emergency awareness, and community responsibility.

“These volunteers don’t wait for help — they are the help,” said Deon Basson from Silverstar. “At Silverstar, we believe that kind of courage deserves support.”

For communities without reliable emergency infrastructure, ECSA is often the only line of defence. And now, thanks to Silverstar and Hot Cares, their mission continues — stronger and better equipped.
