Hot Cares fuels lasting growth for Diepsloot’s young athletes
In 2019, the Diepsloot Care Foundation began with something simple but powerful — a soup kitchen serving a community in need. When Covid struck, sponsors fell away and the kitchen was forced to close. But the heart behind the foundation never stopped beating.
Seven years later, the story is no longer just about survival — it’s about growth.
Founder Sydney Morabe has continued to pour his energy into Diepsloot’s young people, creating structured, supportive spaces where they can belong. What began as community relief has grown into a thriving soccer club with around 80 boys across five age groups, along with a netball programme supporting 26 girls.
“Sport gives them direction. It keeps them focused and off the streets.”
Beyond sport, the foundation still distributes second-hand clothing, toiletries and sanitary pads to ensure young girls can stay in school with dignity. Food parcels continue to support struggling families. You can read more about their earlier community impact in the Fourways Review’s coverage .
But as the teams expanded, equipment became a challenge. Not every child had boots. Not every practice had enough soccer balls.
When Hot Cares heard about the need, we reached out to our friends at Silverstar.

Through the Silverstar Pay It Forward initiative, R25,000 worth of soccer balls, soccer boots and essential hygiene packs are now heading to Diepsloot — ensuring every child has what they need to step onto the field with confidence.
Because at Hot Cares, we know that when you equip a child to play, you’re doing far more than supporting a game.
You’re backing discipline.
You’re building belonging.
You’re growing futures.
And that is impact that lasts well beyond the final whistle.
