Hot Cares invests in learning and safety at St Vincent School for the Deaf

Dylan began Grade 10 this year at St Vincent School for the Deaf in Rosebank — a critical stage in his academic journey. While South African Sign Language is his first language, Dylan has also worked hard to develop spoken communication at home. That effort depends heavily on access to fully functioning hearing aids.

For months, Dylan has been managing with only one working device. His hearing aids are more than five years old, and the failure of the left unit has made learning increasingly difficult — especially in a structured high school environment where clarity, focus and consistency matter most.

That’s where Hot Cares stepped in.

Thanks to funds raised by HOT 1027 listeners, Hot Cares has covered the cost of a new hearing aid for Dylan, ensuring he can fully engage in class, communicate more confidently, and continue building toward his future without unnecessary barriers.

But the impact doesn’t stop with one learner.

Hot Cares is also supporting St Vincent School for the Deaf with JoJo water tanks to help the school manage frequent water outages, ensuring learners’ hygiene and sanitation needs are met. In addition, emergency visual alert lights will be installed so deaf learners can receive immediate warnings during emergencies — a vital safety measure in an environment where audible alarms aren’t accessible.

For Dylan, this support is more than equipment — it’s reassurance that his dreams are valid. And for St Vincent School for the Deaf, it’s practical help that strengthens a learning environment built on dignity, inclusion and possibility.
