Hot Cares helps a young girl find stability after loss

Just weeks after losing her mother in a devastating act of violence, 12-year-old Natalie’s world changed completely.

Forced to leave behind the only home, school, and community she had ever known, Natalie moved in with her aunt Julie, uncle, and cousins — a family already living modestly, but one that never hesitated when it came to giving her a safe place to land.

Julie, herself grieving the loss of her sister, immediately began trying to rebuild a sense of normality for Natalie. But the realities were overwhelming. School transfer fees, uniforms, stationery, transport, and the emotional adjustment of starting over all stood in the way of Natalie returning to the classroom.

“Taking Natalie in was never a question,” Beverly from the Victim Support Unit explained. “This family simply wanted to protect her and give her the love and stability she deserves.
